The annual joint meeting of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation and the Athens College Board of Trustees took place on Monday, June 24th on the Psychico campus. The two Boards, which met in the George Economou Informatics Center, discussed the progress achieved during academic year 2018-2019 and set out strategic objectives for next year. A briefing and dialogue with the School’s staff followed in the College Theater. Messrs. Nikolaos Tsavliris and Alexis Michas, Chairmen of the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees respectively, introduced each of the members of the two Boards, welcomed the newly appointed members, and expressed their satisfaction with the renewal that has been achieved.
In his opening address, Mr. N. Tsavliris thanked the staff for the work they carried out during the past year and stressed that the key objective is to have the School become a center of excellence with an international education outlook. It should be a school that is open-minded, that embraces diversity, whose student are from all walks of life, a school that is open to society and to contemporary pedagogical and scientific trends.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. A. Michas, praised the cooperation between the two Boards, as well as with President Richard Jackson, and emphasized the need to prepare students in accordance with international, educational criteria in order to meet the challenges of global competition. Priority, according to Mr. Michas, should be on the continuous professional development of our teachers.
President Jackson, in his opening remarks, said that the two boards have built a relationship of trust and are working closely to achieve strategic goals. As he said, referring to the staff, “we are all one team and work for the sake of the School.” A dialogue amongst the Chairmen and President then followed in which they discussed, among other things, the need to find new resources and increase the number of Merit Scholarships and Financial Aid. Subsequently, Heads of School and HAEF Divisions gave presentations on their areas of responsibility, outlining their respective accomplishments of the past year.
Members of the two Boards reiterated their commitment to open dialogue and close collaboration in the upcoming months in order to meet the College’s future objectives
The following day, student-ambassadors of the School gave members of the Board of Trustees guided tours of the Psychico and Kantza campuses.
